Spliting the on-screen keyboard is one of the useful features in iOS 5. You can bring up the keyboard, tap and hold the keyboard button in the lower right hand corner, then choose split the keyboard in the pop-up menu. But you can't choose the size of the keys or where to stop the split.
If the split keyboard is not working after updated to iOS5, try the following basic fixes:
* Make sure the feature is set to "on". Tap Settings > General > Keyboard > Split Keyboard set to 'On'.
* Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for 5 seconds until a red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide it. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears.
* Fix the issue by resetting the iPad.
