iPad 2 Home Button unresponsive

Occasionally, I press the Home Button, the iPad 2 will do nothing. Ppressing it again, sometimes upwards of 4 or 5 presses before it finally responds. Each press is an appropriate amount of force and I doesn't mash the button.

I close all running apps and restart the iPad 2, the Home button is perfectly responsive for 3 hours. And I will get the non-responsive Home button again. After restoring to the factory default setting, the problem becomes intermittent. When a few presses, the iPad 2 will go to the search screen or open up the task switcher.

Hopefully this may be a software issue. Is it possible for mechanical switches to be defective?

iPad 2 stuck in Portait orientation mode

The ability to switch between Portrait and Landscape is gone. My new iPad 2 often gets stuck in portrait orientation. My orientation doesn't change. I have my mute switch on orientation mode and it is not locked.

I think it is a software problem with the iOS 4.3. Rebooting fixes it and orientation locks up only occasionally.

iPad 2 Mirroring Works With VGA Adapter

The iPad 2 can mirror its display with the new HDMI adapter, so you see the iPad screen on a TV. However, it also works with the Dock Connector to VGA Adapter.

I get my iPad2 hooked up to a VGA monitor using the standard VGA adapter sold by Apple. Mirroring works great. There is no frame loss, and all features supporting including full view of SpringBoard (the home screen) and rotation. The iCab app is a bit weird as it goes into the window/presentation mode rather than full screen mirroring.

iPad 2 Camera shutter won't open

My camera was working fine. Today I open the camera app and use rear camera, but the shutter won't open. Is there anything I can do to repair it? Trying reset and restore, it won't work.

I think that is a hardware issue. The camera on iPad 2 is a totally a disappointment. That required replacement of the iPad 2.

Bright objects flickering on iPad 2 Camera

My iPad camera gets weird flickering issue. When I shoot video with any of the cameras on my iPad 2, the real-time movie and the recording have brighter objects flickering. That looks like a temporary thermo image or the kind of "overexposed functions" digicams.

To fix the Camera issue, try doing a hard reset. Holding the home button and the sleep button until the screen goes black and the apple logo appears.

Convert Video Formats to iPad Videos

The iPad plays videos only a handful of video formats. I want to convert videos into an acceptable iPad format. Is there free or cheap software for mac with lots of movie format options for iPad and iPhone?

There are all free iPad video converters, including Handbrake, video monkey, evom, reduxencoder, mpeg stream clip. Most people use Handbreak. You can also use Apples QuickTime Pro that isn't free.

Does iPad 2 need Hard Cover or Silicon Cover

I want to buy a protection sheet for the iPad 2. In a store, there are a hard back cover and a silicon back cover. Both are the same price. Will the silicon be better against the fingerprints and sweat of your hands? The price in no issue. Can anybody share your experience with such covers?

Both covers will protect your iPad from scratches, but the silicon will not do much much to protect it from impact from an object. You'd better buy the hardcover. So the iPad feel a lot better, less fragile.

After I downloaded and installed iBooks app on my iPad, the icon kept saying "Loading..." and it showed up in the settings but you can't do anything there. I cound't open it, cound't remove it.

iPad displays imported PDF file as blank pages

I have PDFs on my Mac that display fine, but the iPad displays all of my imported PDFs on Goodreader as blank pages. I have tried Box.net, Dropbox, all with the same result. And I download a newspaper's pdf from www.bazonline.ch with PDFReader and get only blank pages.

If you see blank pages in the PDF file on the iPad, but it shows fine on your Mac/PC. That is caused by JPEG2000 image compression.

I open the PDF in Adobe Reader on my Mac and resave this file as a new PDF/A. When I put the new PDF document on my iPad, it work fine.

Can iPad 2 display mirroring through FaceTime

I have bought a new iPad 2. Can I enable Display Mirroring through FaceTime on the iPad 2?

iPad Keynote crashes on import of ppt/pptx files

When I import .ppt or .pptx files through iTunes on my Keynote app, Keynote goes blank and returns to the iPad home screen every time. I try importing the same files through dropbox, Keynote gets the same issue.

It might be related to the size of the file or the file is password protected. I end up breaking up a large presentation into 2 files and it works.

iPhone prints but iPad can't with AirPrint

I have bought an HP Photosmart Plus B 210a. Both iPhone 4 and iPad are running iOS 4.3 software. The iPhone has no problem with AirPrint and documents come are printed immediately. The iPad recognizes the printer and I can select it when attempting to print, but it doesn't print.

How to fix the AirPrint issus
On the iPad's Home Screen, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and reboot the iPad. It works great now.

FaceTime can't hear other person on iPad 2

My new iPad 2 has an audio issue with FaceTime. When I make video calls to my friend with Facetime, the video and the speaker are fine, but I hear the person I'm connected to. My friend can hear me.

I try rebooting the iPad, turning the volume up, turning FaceTime on/off in Settings. Still can't fix the issue.

Turn Off Ping to extend iPad battery life

I noted the iPad runing iOS 4.3 had shorter battery life than older versions. There were no background apps and push-notification services running on my iPad. However, Ping services might be eating up battery juice.

Ping is Apple social network and recommendation service. This isn't exactly be an important feature for me. To disable Ping, tap Settings > General > Restrictions, enable Restrictions and then turn off Ping.

iPad 2 thinks it's plugged into dock

I noticed my iPad 2 16GB Wi-Fi had no sound, but all the sound settings and lock switch are set correctly. Then I opened the iPod app, it showed "Dock Connector" in the top-left where the volume control normally is. But my iPad was not plugged into a dock.

So I plugged it into my car dock. It plays music/sounds. When I unplug it, I get volume control back. However, if I sync it or plug it into the charger, I get the issues again. Doing a full restore can't fix it.

Today I take the iPad to Apple store. Apple has confirmed it is indeed a hardware issue and I get a new one.

iPad 2 Stuck in Portrait Mode and won't rotate

My iPad 2 seems to be stuck in portrait mode and will not rotate. It happened once after I installed Garage Band. Now it is too small for video that way.

You probably have the rotation lock button switched ON. Check the switch above the volume rocker on the side and that fixes it.

It also seems that rebooting did fix the problem.

Video Playback issues with iPad iOS 4.3

After I upgraded my iPad to iOS 4.3, my converted movie using Pavtube stop playing sound. Only movies with 2-channel audio playback.

I playbacked a movie with more than 2 audio channels from the beginning, audio looped but video continued to playback. Then I scrubbed through the video, playback stopped altogether. The only other videos from ituens works fine.

This is because the Pavtube converter only supports 2 channel stereo. The videos using another tool to convert works fine. Hopefully Apple will fix this bug soon.

Home Sharing drops wifi connection issue

Last night I was watching movies on my iPad by using Home Sharing, and I am using an Apple Airport Extreme N Router. After about 25 mins WiFi connection suddenly dropped, switched to 3G and the screen went blank. After that, Videos tends to crash the next time I open it.

iPad iOS 4.3 Home Sharing with multiple iTunes libraries

I have 2 iTunes libraries on one Mac Pro and one Mac Mini. The libaries are available on the same home sharing network and all good there. All passwords are correctly entered into my computers and iPad.

Both are recognized by my Apple TV 2, however, my iPad 2 can see the iTunes library on each of them, but not both at the same time. Only the Mac Pro library shows up in Shared libraries, when iTunes runs on both devices and I start the iPod or Videos apps on the iPad.

To get the iPad to recognize the iTunes library on the Mac Mini, I have to shut down iTunes on both machines, then start iTunes on the Mac Mini.

If you copy your itunes music library from one machine to another using the finder, you will have 2 machines sharing the same library ID. So the iPad and iPhone running iOS 4.3 is unable to distinguish multiple libraries and it ends up showing just one of them.

To resolve the problem, force iTunes to rebuild your itunes library. Then do a full re sync with the iPad since it believes the library to be a new one.

The iPads themselves are not exactly the same dimension. And the new iPad 2 has magnets inside of it help the smart cover attach itself to the new model. There are no magnets in the iPad 1 for it to stay on when you pick it up.

I have just bought an White iPad 2 16GB WiFi today. The iPad 2 lost connectivity when I left the room whereas my iPhone get good WiFi connectivity all through the house and outdoors. The WiFi only works for a short while, then completely stop.

Rumors: When you first got your iPad 2, the quality of the pictures you taking were amazing. But after sometime, such as a month, the camera quality started degrading. You just got horrible camera pictures, even when the lens is clean. For me, the quality went down 80%.

Apple also announced a new version of iMovie. This app offers many useful features, including deeper editing options, multi-track audio, support for YouTube, Facebook and Vimeo, AirPlay streaming to Apple TV, hardware video out and project sharing through iTunes. iPad 2 cameras with FaceTime

The new iPad 2 is a FaceTime-capable device that has both a front- and a rear-facing camera.

The rear camera on the iPad 2 features HD-quality video at 720p resolution. This camera is the same crappy unit from the iPod touch and not the nice 5MP one from the iPhone 4.

The front-facing camera of the iPad 2 features VGA quality video at 30 frames per second. You can use it for FaceTime chats.
