iOS 5 iMessage Won't Activate

I had updated my iPad 2 to the iOS 5.0. Everything works fine except that the iMessage app won't activate. When I try to sign in to iMessage using my Apple ID, it displays the error "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." The iPad has connected to WiFi network with no problem.

Tap Settings > General > Restrictions, then disable restrictions. iCloud need to be on as well. Hopefully Apple will fix the issue.

  1. I had exactly the same problem. I then tried running it via wifi hotspot through my android phone and it worked straight away. So it must be some restriction in our wireless routers causing this issue

  2. Still no good here. iPod touch and 2 iPhones worked ok through the same WiFi connection (home) iPad2 just bounces back to the "Sign In" screen whenever iMessage sign in is attempted.

  3. Having same issue in reverse. My iPad 2 iMessages no problem. My iPhone 4 won't. It's been working since today. All of a sudden stopped. :(
