iPad 2 Home Button unresponsive

Occasionally, I press the Home Button, the iPad 2 will do nothing. Ppressing it again, sometimes upwards of 4 or 5 presses before it finally responds. Each press is an appropriate amount of force and I doesn't mash the button.

I close all running apps and restart the iPad 2, the Home button is perfectly responsive for 3 hours. And I will get the non-responsive Home button again. After restoring to the factory default setting, the problem becomes intermittent. When a few presses, the iPad 2 will go to the search screen or open up the task switcher.

Hopefully this may be a software issue. Is it possible for mechanical switches to be defective? You can Buy iPad Home Button by Apple from Amazon, or Replacement Home Button Circuit Board for Apple iPad 2.

  2. Hi
I'm having the same issues on my iPad 2 and on iPhone 4...

I though it was mechanical problems...but maybe it's a software thing.

I'm on 4.1 on iPhone and 4.3 on iPad 2

I'm in cambodia so claiming product's mechanical defect, which is most likely now, to Apple is last resort. i hope someone can find an alternative fix to this.

  5. Try this... Press and hold the right side of the button and then at then press the home button while still pressing down the right side. Works every time for me.

I suspect the this problem may be caused by the charger connector being plugged in and pulled out, probably dislodged something below the home button.

The new ipad2 is a lot thinner than the ipad1. I never had this issue with the ipad1.

  6. I got the same problem and already brought it to apple store where i bought it. i waited for 2-3 weeks for the replacement and when i picked up the replacement unit, after testing it in front of them I encountered the same problem. The home button is unresponsive again. Imagined the unit is fresh from the box. No one tested it yet because the policy is that when the unit have been replaced the owner should be the one to test it.

The replacement unit came all the way from Singapore, now that it has the same issue they need to return it back to Singapore and I need to wait for 2-3 weeks again for the replacement.

I think they should change some of their policy. It is very inconvenience and hassle what i just experienced. Why not they test the unit first before sending it to the Philippines or elsewhere to cut the hassle of the long wait process.

  8. When I pressed to the right of the home button, with the iPad2 qorientated with the button at the bottom, i heard a click and the home button now works properly.
I agree with the poster who says the charge lead is moving something inside the iPad2.

  9. I started experiencing the same issue with my Ipad 2 after 5 days of use. I called apple and they said to send it in or go to the store. I don't want to be without it for a few weeks only to have the replacement have the same issue! After reading everyone else's posts I'm thinking that I will just deal with the issue (and buy apple care, of course) until I cant take it anymore!

  10. I just got my iPad 2 two days ago and the home button is at best intermittently responding. So I somehow figured out that if I hold down the home button for about 5 seconds, let go and then quickly tap the home button again right after holding it down, it works. WTF!!!
