No sound in apps since iOS 4.2 update

There was no sound in all my apps since I had updated to iOS 4.2.1. Now my iPad media player has no sound. And I've tried a dozen apps all of which are silent.

To un-mute your system and app sounds, just check the mute switch above the volume rocker. Sliding it all the way up, so that the little red dot is not being shown.

  8. I have sound on some apps such as Netflix but no sound on others so it is not a mute problem. I have reset to factory condition and reinstalled a couple of apps to try again and still have no sound (sending or receiving mail notification)

  13. Arghh something so simple. I forgot about Apple changing that switch to a master mute. Oddly the iPod player was able to bypass it and play sounds as per normal. Ta, jeff

  16. Merci je pensais également que j'avais un problème sur mon iPad mais c'est juste le mute button, le pire c'est que ça fonctionne tjs avec l'iPod le son!

  17. The switch at the side worked for me, but the solution needs a little modification. The setting for the switch also needs to be changed to "Mute" in "Settings," if it has not already been changed.

    Thanks for the tip!

  18. Yes, thanks for me too. I guess the list of thank your will get longer heheh. The combination of muting and locking is not the greatest idea. But now its solved.

  19. Still a problem with apps/games not providing sound through the speaker, such as dice rolling. ITunes and iHeartradio play thru the speaker fine, and everything plays thru earphones fine. The time frame is consistent with everything above but I've moved the button off red and still no sound through the speaker for the three games I have, Backgammon, flight control HD, and craps deluxe. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

  20. I also have this problem. Music plays and even some apps make sound (talking Tom works) but almost all other apps are silent. Not the mute button issue. Have restored from backup and fiddled with all the settings I can think of. Really weird. Good to know I'm not alone.

  21. I pushed the mute switch up as well, but had to change the slide switch function bqck to mute as (settings slide switch option) well before the audio kicked back in.

  22. I had my side switch set to lock rotation instead of mute so I switched that back to mute and now my sound works again! Thanks everyone!

  23. Had to turn Mute on in the settings as well. My slide switch on the side was okay. Hmmm....

  24. All you have to do is go to settings and either choose that you want the switch as mute or as a rotation switch to get your app sounds back.

  25. Can not get the sound to work on some apps. Tried all the suggestions with the switch.. still not working????? What gives?

  26. You need double click the home button twice and then another dock will pop up. Scroll to the left and it will take you to another screen where you control your ipod. There's an un-mute button that you need to click and that will bring back the sound for your apps etc.

  27. wow..i had changed it to lock screen earlier, but after reading this, closed the app and changed the locking to mute, then reopened the app and unmuted using the button, and viola it works...thanks a ton...i was getting nervous about this.. stupid ipad testers... should have tested this simple scenario

  30. I just fixed this problem on my iPad and it if you had my problem which was having my side switch changed to lock rotation and apps still had no sound then to fix this all you need to do is go to settings>general then change the switch function back to mute.move the switch so everything is unmute and now you have the sound to your apps back.the whole problem to this is that the iPad remembers its previous settings even after you change the switch function. So if you put it to mute then changed the function to lock rotation, the iPad still remembers you setting it to mute.

  31. Thank you!! I had to change from rotation to sound on my iPad settings to be able to get sound while watching movies, and belive me it took me some time to figure that one out! so stupid!

  32. Add me to the list - thanks - saved me a trip to the Apple Store too!

  33. I have followed all the suggestions, and still no sound

With earphones plugged in, no problem but take out the earphones, and it says dock connector. I don't have one so I'm not sure it comes up with that.

  36. Important! If you changed rocker switch to control landscape, rather than on/off sound in settings, the apps stay silent.

    Big Bad Bug, Apple!
