After your iPad updated to iOS 4.2, the screen orientation lock switch will be changed to a mute switch. In order to stop the screen rotating, you have to double tab the home button, swipe to the side and tap a virtual button in the dock. It's annoying and you may be a tad upset with this option.
There is a solution for making the mute switch button an orientation lock button again. But you have to jailbreak your iPad.
Once installed the app called NoMute, you are able to restore the function of the rotate lock switch on iOS 4.2. Unfortunately, you won't find this app on the official app store.

Thank you
ReplyDeleteDouble click (double press) the round button on face of your iPad, this reveals fast app switching, slide all the way to the left end of the apps by flicking from left to right. You will see the screen rotate lock icon. Press the icon to lock. Press again to unlock.
ReplyDeleteOnce you get the hang of it, it works pretty quick. I learned this from my iPhone.

ReplyDeleteI don't understand what mute is for now?.. If I am playing songs (iPod) on iPad.. and press 'mute' button it flashes mute symbol on screen but does not mute the sound!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! It worked perfect. I thought someone messed up my lock switch!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Elegant, but excessive work-around to a terrible "upgrade".
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone. It really helped me a lot!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant sharing, thanx.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info. Now I can comfortably do my homework while in bed. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, if you go to Settings>General, there's an option to "Use Side Switch to:" and select either "Lock Rotation" or "Mute".

thank you for the info and kindness
ReplyDeleteYou DONT have to download any apps or jailbreak your ipad. You have an option of whether you want to use the side switch to mute or to lock rotate. Just go to SETTINGS. Then under the GENERAL tab.... there is a menu that asks you what you want to use the side switch for..... as a mute switch or to lock screen rotation. Very easy. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteWow thanks
ReplyDeleteMy iPad doesn't have a "side switch option"under settings /:
