iPad gives you a full color experience in the screens. Viewing the photos in Kindle is in black and white. The design of Kindle make reading easier on the eyes.
The iPad starts at $499 and I think it will be more cheaper. The Kindle is $259 and the more expensive model is $489. So assessing your wallet.
